13 units must be completed:

• 8 core units
• 5 elective units, consisting of:

1. at least 2 units from the electives listed below
2. Up to 3 units from any endorsed Training Package or accredited course – these units must be relevant to the work outcome.

Students must be above 18 years of age while filling up the application form.

The Pre-Training Review (PTR) will be conducted prior to the enrolment into your course of studies to ensure that the training and assessment provided by Unified WA are able to meet the student’s individual needs. Students are required to fill up the PTR form and submit it along with the application form.
Unified WA will review the student’s current competencies, student needs, English level, support requirements and oral communication skills in order to enrol them in the most appropriate course to achieve their intended outcomes.

International students applying for this course, either off-shore or on-shore, will require:

i)Either a minimum IELTS (General) test score of 5.5 or equivalent* for direct entry into a VET course;

*The test must have been taken no more than two years* before you apply to study at Unified WA or an IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course;

or an IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course;
Results older than two years are not acceptable.

OR

ii) To provide evidence that they have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States
OR

iii) To provide evidence that within two years* of their signed written agreement date, they have successfully completed in Australia a foundation course or a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial part of a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework.

*The date when Unified WA receives the signed written agreement (either through email or in hand)

All prospective students are required to complete the Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment, administered by and to the satisfaction of UWA.

Students undertaking this course must possess sound numeracy skills to calculate budgets, measure medications, interpret data related to clients’ health and well-being, and understand reports. Students will also need satisfactory reading skills to accurately read and interpret a range of complex texts, including policy documents, legislation, case studies, research reports, and client records. Students will need to be able to read and understand these texts to extract important information and apply it to their practice.

LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF-mapped online LLN assessment tool – LLN Robot, under the supervision of a qualified LLN Trainer/Assessor. All students are required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) according to the following qualification:

Students are required to achieve the expected level of performance level as per the required level. Where a student does not achieve the required LLN scores for this qualification, LLN support* will be provided to the student.

*LLN support-If students do not meet the recommended English and/or LLN requirements, students will be referred for additional support, which will be provided by the institute with ACSF Support Plan, or students may also be asked to take further Language, literacy and numeracy training, such as ELICOS programs at other institutes to ensure that students are provided with support and proper guidance. Unified WA does not offer ELICOS programs.

Learners must possess the necessary physical abilities and manual handling skills to perform the tasks required for the role. As community service workers, they will be working in close proximity to individuals and will spend a significant amount of time on their feet. The job also involves heavy lifting, such as transferring a person between bed and chair, providing bed bathing, and assisting with car transfers. Additionally, learners will be handling chemical products and treatments and may be exposed to diseases or infections. Therefore, prospective learners should carefully consider their personal barriers before enrolling in this course.

In line with its access and equity policy, UWA will identify any barriers presented by learners during Pre-Training Review before enrolment and may provide support and reasonable adjustment where possible.

All students enrolling on this qualification at Unified WA must have basic computer skills. Students are required to fill in the questions related to computer and internet skills in the Pre-Training Review form provided along with the application form. Students who do not possess basic computing skills will be provided with basic computer user support. students can contact Unified WA for any further information or assistance.

UWA will provide access to computers with required resources during classroom hours to work on assignments and tasks, all learners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with the Windows 7 operating system or higher at their own cost.  Learners should have an active email address for communication and be contactable by phone (mobile or landline) and by mail (postal address).  All learners should have access to MS office applications such as Microsoft Word and an email platform at their own cost.

Material Fees will only include printed reading materials and books provided by the institute.

Learners are also required to meet the dress, grooming and personal hygiene standards as outlined in the UWA Student Handbook and as would be expected in the occupation of a Care Worker, including wearing non-slip closed-toe shoes, surgical masks, gloves, goggles, glasses, face shields, gowns, aprons etc.

To achieve the CHC52021- Diploma of Community Services qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 400 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency and ACWA fieldwork placement guideline. Unified WA will work with the learner to schedule a suitable work placement, but prior to undertaking this placement, students will be required to arrange at their own cost:

• Current National Police Records Check (UWA learners can apply for a discounted CVF fee of $18.40 as of May 2020)
• Current Influenza (Flu) vaccine (a requirement of our Host Employers)

The volume of learning for the qualification is 1800 hours. This comprises of:

• Learning Hours (1276 hours)
• Assessment (364 hours)
• Placement Hours (160 hours)

This will be delivered over 104 weeks of course duration, including 80 weeks’ delivery plus 24 weeks’ holidays.

Assessment methods used for this course are Knowledge test, Case studies/Observation/Role play/Portfolio/Report, Project/presentation, Practical placement.

Successful completion may enable the student to apply for CHC82015 – Graduate Certificate in Client Assessment and Case Management.

This course at Unified WA will be delivered through a combination of 15 hours per week of face-to-face classroom learning and 5 hours of supervised online learning. Students will also have access to a simulated environment as part of their training activities.
